COLOR AND TEXTURE

My love affair with jewelry had already started in the sixties. As a young girl gifted with talent to paint, I began to work (in order to finance my studies) for jewelers. I made ornaments on silverware by dwelling in their workshops. I became enchanted with their work and got the 'addiction".

At the beginning of the 70s, as I graduated from my studies in art, I joined the "MASKIT" workshops by working and at the same time, learning the mastery of jewelry.

In 1985 I founded my own workshop and started to design jewels independently. In the meantime through all these years, I have been attracted to the study of painting and arts, and in parallel, also studies the history of art.

Working with silver attracts me very mush, since the material itself is

colorful and in any kind of processing the silver receives many sorts of nuances. The nuances I can obtain by using different textures and combinations of the material. An additional element of color is furnished by colored stones.

The subjects that interest me most are historical motifs. Since "a person is shaped by the shape of his homeland", I toured extensively my country and realized that the history of the land of ISRAEL as a crossroads between East and West introduced to the country all the ancient civilizations. This is well expressed by the sights of Israel and its antique sites.

Today, the human scenery of Israel is also most varied because of the immigration from all over the world. Therefore we can encounter here arts stemming from different cultures, and of course, one draws from them and is influenced by them in subjects, forms, colors and symbols.

For example: in necklace n-101, the central decoration is:

This decoration includes a Star of David, which is an explicit Jewish symbol. Such decorations or similar ones can be found in many antique objects and constructions. Although an ancient Indian symbol, I discovered with astonishment, as a consequence of the peace agreement with our Arab neighbors, that the Star of David is also a symbol of certain Berber tribes in Morocco. The source is unimportant. What is important is the fact that this symbol was used by the peoples of the region for thousands of years before us. I have given the symbol an interpretation of mine, by joining the symbol to the decorations of ancient constructions, and so this splendid decoration has been born.

After the peace with Egypt, I had the occasion to hold in my hands pictures of the magnificent jewels of the Pharaohs. I have been enchanted by the wonderful use made of beads and stones, and from the rich and vivid colors. So I created jewels with dense lines of stones.

An additional example: a new series with wine leaves. At many sites in my country I have seen this motif, including the Jewish ritual holy vessels. In the last summer I visited Jordan and Petra, and I have seen there many ancient coins. By checking in books about the ancient coins I found that the majority of the coins have been minted in the Hellenistic period and part of them in the Roman period. The motif of wine leaves plus cornucopia appears on some of the coins. Wine leaves are a symbol of prosperity and fertility. In the Jewish sources there is a verse that says: "Your wife is like a fertile vine in the stern of your house and your sons are like young olive trees around your table." Inspired by this, a series of jewels decorated with vine leaves has been created. Later on I intend to check the subject of olive trees of which our environment is fully blessed. Probably this subject will be expressed in the series that will follow.

Every visit in a museum, every strolling at an ancient site creates a new jewel. The looking for and the searches in the sources are an important part of my work and the combination of sources, knowledge and experience in painting and art create interest and tension it it.

From the year 1990 I visit and expose in commercial professional exhibitions in Europe and the United States.

My works are marketed in exclusive galleries in Israel, Europe and the United States.
